In Sibexpocentre the 21st international ‘Baikaltour’ exhibition was opened

On March 28, 2018 in Sibexpocentre Irkutsk Exhibition Complex opening of the 21st international tourist ‘Baikaltour’ exhibition took place. The event traditionally demonstrates possibilities of the internal tourism in the region and also helps to get acquainted with the new directions and proposals of representatives of federal and international tourist industry in anticipation of the tourist season.

Valentina Voblikova, Deputy Prime Minister of Irkutsk Region made a welcome speech at the official opening of the exhibition:

— The Baikaltour exhibition traditionally takes place in anticipation of a new tourist season for already 21 years. Today we, as well as 20 years ago, have an opportunity to demonstrate our new tourist products which we open this year and also products which became traditional in Irkutsk Region. Our region is rich with sights, and we are proud of the fact that we live in Siberia on the bank of remarkable Lake Baikal. Last year Irkutsk Region was visited by more than 15 million people, 211 thousand of them were foreign tourists. It is the record quantity in comparison with previous years.

However, not only Baikal attracts tourists from all over the world, they are interested in the national identity of our region. More than 160 peoples and nationalities live on the territory of the region, and today it will also be presented at the exhibition. Indeed, an original culture is an unusual culture that is reborn, preserved and developed on the territory of the region. It is certainly interesting to everyone who comes to our Irkutsk land. And therefore, dear friends, guests, participants, organisers, thank you very much on behalf of Sergey Levchenko, Governor of Irkutsk Region for taking part and broadcasting the spirit of kindness and friendship all over the world.

Anatoly Prokopyev, Deputy Governor of Irkutsk Region - Head of Administration of the the Ust-Ordyn Buryat Autonomous District also made a speech at the opening ceremony:
- The nature has awarded us with the objects which we have in our region. Our ancestors left us a cultural heritage that we preserve and develop. All this attracts tourists and helps them to get acquainted with the culture, art, traditions of local residents. I have to tell that every year thanks to joint efforts, the number of tourists only increases.

At the exhibition we are happy to present our ‘Golden Horde’, the National Museum of the Ust-Ordyn Buryat Autonomous District, the museum named after our famous landsman Aleksandr Vampilov, ‘Tubden Darzhelin’ Ust-Orda District Datsan. I wish everyone a good business mood, so that those ideas and plans that will appear in your round tables, conferences, working meetings, were successfully implemented in practice.

Mr. Cao Yunlun, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Irkutsk began his speech with the fact that the ‘Baikaltour’ exhibition is the unique platform for professionals of the tourist industry and one of the largest tourist events of Eastern Siberia:

- I am convinced that the exhibition will certainly increase the attractiveness of Lake Baikal for tourists, and this will contribute to the further development of tourism cooperation between China and Russia. I want to note that in recent years, thanks to joint efforts, the Chinese-Russian relations sustain momentum, development of cooperation occurs at all levels. In 2017, the number of Chinese tourists who visited Russia reached 1.5 million, and China, in turn, became the second country in terms of attendance by Russian tourists. According to the different estimates Irkutsk Region attracted about 120 000 Chinese tourists, which is more than 50% of the total number of foreign tourists who visited Irkutsk Region. Thereon I want to state that our cooperation achieved great success, both at the state and local level. This is the result of joint efforts of both parties which treat with due care.

Mr. Eom Kee-Young, Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Irkutsk noted that after entry into force of the visa-free regime tourist flow between Russia and Korea has considerably increased. In addition, the demand for Korean medical tourism has increased significantly in the Siberian region. The Republic of Korea in turn has high medical technologies and reasonable prices in comparison with other developed countries. In conclusion, Mr. Eom Kee-Young conveyed sincere thanks to the Government of Irkutsk Region and the leadership of Sibexpocentre for the organisation of the exhibition and also expressed hope for the expansion of cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Siberia in the field of medical tourism.

He also said that at the exhibition from Mongolia, the delegation headed by the chief of the Tourism Association Administration participated:
