The opening ceremony of the 22-nd international ‘Baikaltour’ tourist’s exhibition was held on March 22 in Sibexpocentre.
The key business event of the “Baikaltour 2019” exhibition was the international tourism forum “Time to rest on Lake Baikal”, with the participation of representatives of Rostourism, the Government of the Irkutsk Region, PJSC Sberbank and federal experts. All the topics related to the development of tourism and all necessary infrastructures were discussed within the framework of the event. Participants of the forum discussed activities that do not cause damage to the environment, talked about how they develop and what is necessary for it. Statistics of tourist growth, further prospects were announced, nature conservation zones were identified.
Chairman of the Government of the Irkutsk Region Bolotov Ruslan Nikolaevich noted: ‘The forum is held for the second time. For the first time, we began to elaborate and follow the rules of the game that exist in the tourist business. The key challenge for us is not only to develop the tourism business, but also to do it in accordance with the law. We see the positive dynamics of the tourist flow in recent years, and this dynamics will certainly continue.’
‘Today, the 22nd international exhibition ‘Baikaltour’ is held, - said the President of the Union "chamber of Commerce and industry of Eastern Siberia" Sobol Alexey Ivanovich, and a forum of this scale is not often held in Irkutsk. I want to remind you that the idea of the forum appeared during the presentation of the Irkutsk region at the site of the chamber of Commerce and industry of Russian Federation. Then we tried to make the presentation a little bit different from the others. We have combined the presentation of our investment and economic opportunities with the holding of round tables. We discussed a lot of questions, and then it was decided to hold a similar discussion on environmental issues, the development of tourism on Lake Baikal and in Irkutsk.’
Chairman of the Baikal Bank PAO Sberbank Alexander Nikolaevich Abramkin shared his opinion: ‘
It is no coincidence that we are the co-organizers at the forum. Sberbank is interested in the development of our region and is responsible in economic terms. We should take care of our ‘Pearl’ lake Baikal and nd properly develop the tourism industry.’
After the plenary session, the head of the Irkutsk Region Tourism Agency, Ekaterina S. Slivina, shared her impressions:
‘All the topics that were discussed at the forum are relevant for our region. We also discussed what is happening in the Baikal tourism sphere. Representatives of the tourism and banking business, potential investors, environmental organizations, which support or oppose the chaotic development of tourism on Baikal, also shared their opinions.’
Ms. Slivina also noted that urgent problems of the Baikal region will be discussed at the exhibition:
‘Educational projects will be held on the second day of the exhibition. For many years we have been staking on development of event tourism. School of guides and event tourism will be the main theme of educational project. It will be held for the third time. Its format is expending and more and more new themes appear. The school of guides is one of the most sought-after events of the Baikaltour exhibition. In addition, there will be a lot of interesting special events. The business programme of ‘Baikaltour’ -2019 exhibition will reflect all trends, events, problems and prospects. Exhibition is the key event of the tourism sphere of Eastern Siberia and the best platform for business communications.’
The forum is divided into several sections, and one of them is devoted to personnel policy in the tourism industry. At the round table ‘Personnel make difference’ standards of interaction with employers, the current state and trends of scientific and personnel support for the development of the tourism industry in Russia were discussed. The participants discussed the personnel policy of tourism services in terms of the introduction of professional standards, talked about the interaction of education system and employers. The round table was attended by representatives of Moscow educational institutions, who introduced their practice of interaction with the employer.
The topic of another section was on qualification system in the hotel business. The speakers shared the innovations of the industry legislation for the tourist industry, told how to promote the hotel in social networks, and discussed the quality standards of hotels, talked about the pros and cons of the classification of hotels. Participants also discussed the influence of professional competence of staff on the quality construction of a hospitable team. They exchanged views on how national cuisine influences the effective development of the tourist area, and, of course, touched upon the important topic of dynamic pricing, marketing, increasing customer loyalty in a country hotel.
The section “Economic Consequences of Legislative Contradictions on the Protection of Lake Baikal” reviewed the rules for organizing tourism and recreation in Baikal special zone, economic opportunities and restrictions on the development of tourism business on Lake Baikal, features of tourism development on the borders of the protected area, environmental zoning and recreation opportunities.
After the plenary session of the forum "Time to relax on Lake Baikal", the opening ceremony of the exhibition was held. Sergey Georgievich Levchenko, Governor of the Irkutsk Region, made a welcoming speech:
‘The annual exhibits of the participants are a unique business platform for meeting industry professionals on the eve of the new tourist season on Baikal. This is one of the largest tourist forums in Eastern Siberia. The exhibition, which represents the Baikal region and not only as a promising development for tourism, sports, recreation, presents the potential of tourist opportunities in the region of Siberia and the Far East. The exhibition plays an important role in creating and promoting a competitive regional tourism product. I know that the business program of the exhibition is full of useful information. All this creates the best conditions for establishing business relations, exchange of experience.’
Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Irkutsk Mr. Cao Yunlong also made a welcoming speech:
‘Congratulations on the successful opening of the 22nd international tourist exhibition ‘Baikaltour’. I want to thank the organizers for the warm welcome. Tourism is an important factor in economic growth and creation of new jobs in the region. Foreign tourists are symbol of peace and friendship. In 2018, the Irkutsk region was visited by more than 186 thousand tourists, this can be considered a huge success that was achieved thanks to our joint efforts."
The Consul General of Mongolia in the city of Irkutsk Mr. Luvsandagva Amarsana noted that the Mongolian-Russian relations and cooperation are successfully developing.
‘This exhibition is international; there are many companies that want to find partners for cooperation. Thus, the exhibition makes a great contribution to the development of the tourism industry of the Baikal region.’
Then the Consul of the Republic of Korea in Irkutsk Mr. Shin Kyu Ho made a welcoming speech:
‘The exhibition ‘Baikaltour’ attracts more and more participants every year as the number of foreign tourists increases. Traditionally, more than 20 Korean enterprises, representing medical tourism, will take part in the exhibition. I hope for further expansion of cooperation between Korea and Siberia, which will be an occasion to establish contacts with various Korean companies. ‘
President of the Union “Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Eastern Siberia” Sobol Alexey Ivanovich congratulated everybody on the start of the exhibition and noted that, ‘Today`s exhibition is not so simple, because within its framework the forum ‘Time to relax on Baikal’ is held. It discusses issues of federal and regional legislation, infrastructure and its development, investments and various projects. ‘

The exhibition this year is unusual, as Alexey Ivanovich quite rightly noted, a huge joint work of the Chamber of Commerce, the Agency for Tourism and the Sibexpocenter was held on it. A wonderful forum has appeared, and we hope that it will become a good tradition. I want to wish you all successful work, new contacts, projects and ideas. I declare the exhibition open!
After the opening ceremony officials walked through the exhibition, among which were the ‘recreation center Angara’, the Belarusian club Krivichi, ‘Union Onyx’, ‘Irkutsk Arbat’, ‘Museum of Regional Studies’, ‘Sukachev Manor’, ‘Arsenal Group’, Sevastopol. Representatives of the companies told about their activities, showed products, and introduced new products and technologies, told about future plans.
To sum up, the exhibition "Baikal-tour" has expanded its borders and has risen to a new stage of development. In addition to the important and necessary forum "Time to relax on Lake Baikal" the exhibition presents more than a hundred companies that offer their services in the tourism industry. It is good to note, that exhibition became an international event, because exhibitors from South Korea, China, Mongolia and other parts of Russia take part in exhibition. There are many proposals for cooperation, as well as representative offices of resorts, sanatoriums, medical clinics and other companies. We glad that the exhibition is thriving, and undoubtedly brings great benefits to both professionals and visitors.
