SibWoodExpo exhibition will become the brand of Irkutsk Region
The recognizable ‘Forest Management. Wood Working Industry of Siberia. Wooden House Construction’ exhibition held for 24 years in Irkutsk Sibexpocentre, in September 2018 will be held once again, but under the new name – ‘SibWoodExpo’. The international status of the event will also big up. Changes are connected with the fact that the main exhibition platform of the region and the German company Deutsche Messe Rus on May 24 of this year signed the contract according to which the foreign company becomes the co-organiser of the programme and the exposition of the exhibition in Irkutsk Region.
It took several years to negotiate on cooperation. But, as Andrey Shapovalov, General Director of Sibexpocentre explained at the press conference preceding signing of the contract, the duration of negotiations was not connected at all with the fact that the parties could not find a common language. Negotiations were suspended, then resumed, adapting to the changing political situation.
I'm glad that common sense has won. The main result of the organisation of the renewed exhibition will be the opportunities for development that the region will receive, since our exhibition platform is a tool for business and government of Irkutsk Region. Those technologies which will be seen by our timber industry complex, those new ideas that will be introduced with the help of our partners, are worth a lot, and will ultimately serve for the development of the region, - the head of the exhibition complex explained.
The focus is on forest issues
The management of Sibexpocentre several years ago thought of the fact that it is necessary to develop in different directions. Today the main exhibition platform of the region operates in all segments and sectors of the economy of Irkutsk Region. Combining joint efforts in organising the exhibition with foreign colleagues is a desire to single out one, the most important direction that will be the main in the work of the exhibition platform, visiting card of Sibexpocentre.
The choice of forest subjects as the main for the exhibition site is not casual. As Viktor Kondrashov, Deputy Chairman of the Government of Irkutsk Region, said, in recent years the region took a quantum leap increasing three times the amount of processed wood and reducing the volume of roundwood exports.
For many years everything was conversely. Changes, certainly, have affected economy. The forest industry has increased the tax return twice. We introduce new tools: we started to create the ‘Forest Register’ programme, chipping, the number of illegal cabins decreased. We progressively go on the way of development of the forestry sector. The forthcoming ‘SibWoodExpo’ exhibition is a significant step on this way. I shall note that this event is extraordinary, the effect for industry development will be enormous. Now it is even difficult to assume what impetus for economy growth will be given by this event, - Deputy Chairman of the Government of Irkutsk Region emphasized.
Technologies in operation
Deutsche Messe Rus offers a fundamentally new approach in the organisation of the exhibition. Exhibitors among whom many foreign representatives are expected will show not posters at the exhibition as it often happens, but the equipment, moreover, it will be demonstrated in operation. Regional authorities are ready to provide a technical site near Irkutsk, where the work of modern technologies will be shown. Such a demonstration of equipment will be organised in Irkutsk Region for the first time.
I saw such complexes in work during one of the trips abroad, - Victor Kondrashov told about the forthcoming demonstration. - One highly skilled operator operates the vehicle. The operation is fully electronic: at the same time, logs are measured, laser scribing is performed. Trees are cut down, there is no waste, small ones are turned into mulch and serve as fertilizer, large ones are turned into chips and are processed further. Many enterprises of the region working in the forestry sector showed a keen interest to the exhibition. Someone tries to buy such equipment, but there are still a lot of tenants who work by hand, if not to tell in the barbaric way.
Foreign co-organisers of the Irkutsk SibWoodExpo exhibition strive to make it look like the world's largest specialised exhibition of equipment and technologies for the timber and woodworking industries LIGNA which is carried out in Germany. It brings together on one platform about 1800 companies directly related to the forestry and woodworking industries. The exhibition is visited by more than 100 thousand professional visitors.
It is very important for us that Sibexpocentre seriously considered our company as the partner for the organisation of the exhibition, - Svetlana Fedoseyeva, General Director of Deutsche Messe Rus noted at the press conference. – Our company is a player of the top league in the exhibition world. Deutsche Messe AG owns the biggest exhibition areas in the world. We hold more than 100 exhibitions worldwide. Our joint work will make the Irkutsk exhibition really international, and Irkutsk - the most recognizable region in Russia. We really hope that we have come here for a long time.
What is interesting for the region?
Certainly there will be some features in the Irkutsk exhibition. Our region, first of all, is interested in the added-value wood processing, technologies for the production of value-added products, forest protection and reafforestation, training personnel for work in the forestry sector. Moreover, foreign colleagues are interested in carrying out the ‘youth’ day during which they intend to get acquainted with future employees of forest industry, perspective projects on development of the forest complex of Irkutsk Region. Michael Bartos, Representative of the top management of Deutsche Messe AG noted that the foreign company seeks to help the region with discussion of these and many other questions that will contribute as a result to the development of forest industry complex of Irkutsk Region. The programme offered by partners from Germany can fit perfectly into the complex of business events of the third regional Forest Forum which will take place within the ‘SibWoodExpo’ exhibition.
Colleagues from Deutsche Messe Rus emphasized the professional approach of the management of Sibexpocentre and the government of the region to the preparation of the event. Representatives of the foreign company, having moved to the proposed technical site, approved the choice, and the heterogeneous landscape of the area was perceived as an advantage, since the technique, which will be tested in Irkutsk Region is ready to work both on a flat surface and on a mountainous one. Every professional visitor of the forthcoming exhibition must necessarily find there what he needs. Well, the nature of our region allowed no guests of the region - co-organizers of the exhibition to stay indifferent.

Andrey Shapovalov, General Director of Sibexpocentre also paid special attention to the fact that the ‘SibWoodExpo’ exhibition is important for the main exhibition platform not only by demonstration of technical novelties that, of course, is very useful for modernisation of the wood-processing companies of the region, but also because it is difficult to overestimate its importance for development of the added-value wood processing, reforestation and protection, fight against wildfires and also staff training of the region. These questions will be brought up by professionals, experts in forest area, and it means that the region will have the opportunity to make significant progress in the most diverse areas of the forestry sector, to be saturated with best practices.
Moreover, the specialised exhibition will give start to the long-term cooperation between Sibexpocentre OJSC, Deutsche Messe Rus Company and the government of the region. One of the first steps in this direction – invitation of Irkutsk Region to the exhibition in Hanover at the end of May, 2019 for the presentation of opportunities of the forest complex of our region. The investment projects, large and small business enterprises, especially those who are interested in the added-value wood processing and production of value-added products can be presented there. The foreign party will undertake the organisation of the invitation of potential investors, European companies who are interested in selling their equipment and technologies. Thus, the contract on cooperation between Sibexpocentre OJSC and Deutsche Messe Rus is a huge step for advance of the region and development of technologies in the forest sphere of the Angara region.
